It takes place several years before Samson’s story kicks off the Scanguards Vampires series in San Francisco with Samson’s Lovely Mortal. Jake is first mentioned in Quinn’s Undying Rose. Well-loved Scanguards characters—Gabriel, Zane, and Amaury—will make an appearance in this short novella.
Previously published as part of an anthology
This is a longer version of Mortal Wish, which first appeared in the anthology “Summer on Seeker’s Island” in 2013. Some character names, settings, and events have been changed, and several chapters have been added to this new 2015 version. This short novella of approximately 60 pages is over 50% longer than the 2013 anthology version.

I will one click everything Tina writes instantly.As with all of the other Scansguard books, I saw Mortal Wish was live from the newsletter and immediately bought it.
This one just did not do it for me.
It felt extremely rushed and just kind of as if it was quickly thrown together to appease readers. I felt the usual passion behind the words was lacking.
It had nothing to do with Scanguards until the last paragraph.
As I was reading I kept thinking, "Why is this labeled a Scanguards book?!" Then, I understood and it was just "Eh." for me.
The book was short and it was hot. I read it quickly. It just fell flat for me and I was disappointed.
With that said, Blake's story has just come out and it's one I've been waiting for, so its now waiting for me.
Time to dive back into the world of my beloved Scansguard characters.
Final thought from me: Mortal Wish is just an ok novella in a line-up of amazing books. It can definitely be skipped for those extremely dedicated to the series.

This short novella is a great addition to the Scanguards series. Set in 1991, it predates Book One, and tells how Jake met Claire and was recruited by Scanguards. If you are a fan of the series, this is a must read. And if you aren't yet a fan, this story is a good introduction.

I began reading Tina's 'Scanguards' stories at the beginning with Samson and Delilah . I was hooked from the very first book.
This new story is fast and romantic. Though some might feel it was rushed, I'd say it's perfect.
The lonely Vampire looking for a normal life, and the desperate human looking for a miracle.
If that doesn't sound like the makings of a romantic book, then nothing does.
Oh my goodness, like always and as all the Scanguards books this one didn't disappoint. I really liked the fact that Jake and Claire saved each other by simply bumping into one another and changing their fates.
I hope to see some more of Claire or Jake in the future and see what they have been up to in their lives with Scanguards.

This is great if you want a complete story but only have a very short time to read. Fabulous! It was heart warming to see Jake find both love and a purpose in life. Of course like every short story you do not get to know the characters and their pasts as intimately as you do in a full-length novel but that is the trade off for a quick finish. It was super fun to see Gabriel, Amaury, and Zane at the end. I am looking forward to Blake's story in January. Tina Folsom definitely entertains me every time!
This is a sweet short novelle that makes you feel warm and happy inside. Jake comes to the island in search of the water that will grant his wish to become mortal again. While there his first night he meets Claire. She is there to drink the water to grant her wish to live instead of perishing from brain cancer. Will heir wishes be granted? Sorry no spoilers from me. Habe a fan near bexause the sex is hot. You also catch a little time with Zane and Amaury. it is a quick read that will hold us over until January when her next full length novel comes out. t
Even though it's short Tina always manages to pull me in with her writing. I loved Claire and Jake. They both travel somewhere that is suppose to fulfill there wish or hearts desire. A springs that's suppose to have powers. But it's the sacrifice that makes the springs have the effect. Claire is dying and Jake is tired of being a creature of the night with no one to share it with. The two meet and sparks fly. He offers Claire something that can change her life forever but will she take it?
We get a "small" appearance from Gabriel, Zane (my favorite smart a@@) and Amaury. I would of loved a bit more of Jake's past along with Claire but it was still sooooooooooo good that I was left with a big smile on my face. Now just have to wait patiently till January for Blake's Pursuit.
