Everyone knows dragons have been extinct for over 1,000 years.

Everyone is wrong.

At least one dragon remains, and military scientists from the Cofah Empire are experimenting with its blood, using the magical substance to power deadly new weapons that could be used to bring the world to its knees. That's a concern for Zirkander, Cas, and the rest of the Iskandians, but all Tolemek wants is to find his missing sister. The last time he saw her, their father had locked her in an asylum because of a mental illness with no cure. Now the military has taken her. What use the Cofah have for her, Tolemek can only guess, but he is certain she is in danger. He must save her before it's too late. But her fate is inexplicably tied to the dragon's, and he must find it to find her.

A fellow Buroker-fan told me that the more I read of this series, the more I'm going to enjoy this and the more action I'm going to get. She was not mistaken as I seem to like each book more. Although I do have to say that I may prefer Sardelle with her silly name to Cas, but I adore both the crazy evil scientist Tolemek and the a bit loony pilot Ridge. Why can't we have all four POV-s at once?

Action-wise this book starts right where the previous book ended and is full of even more action than the previous books in the series. And guess what? I liked it a lot! As with the previous stories, the laugh out loud worthy banter makes it all even better. Example:
“Just don’t get close to the body,” Zirkander said. “We’re leaving that for Tolemek.”
“Really,” he[Tolemek] said.
“Don’t you want to get your microscope out and look at some brain bits?”
“Brain bits, Zirkander? How is it your people consider you a national hero?”
“We have low standards for heroism in Iskandia.”
“Obviously.”
I may not have been a fan of the insecurities Tolemek and Cas felt towards their relationship as they seemed so badass otherwise, BUT I felt that the book simply flew by and, of course, left me wanting more of this world. Which I am going to do ASAP, of course.

Patterns in the Dark Dragon Blood Book 4 (Audible Audio Edition) Lindsay Buroker Caitlin Davies Podium Publishing Books Reviews

This is her 4th book in the series. I bought this book years ago and just started reading it. It is good for teens and adults. No explicit nonsense, but there is romance. The book is engaging and interesting. I had trouble putting it down at times. Of course one books leads to the next in the series, but I found at this point that after this book, I was at a good point to take a break. I would recommend this as a great magical escape book with romance included.
Another marvelous story in the Dragon Blood series.

Once again, Lindsay manages to weave together an intriguing, fast paced story with all of the characters that have been well developed over the past 3 books.

A few major notes regarding this book. Again, the pacing is fantastic, just like in the previous books. Just as one event is dealt with/overcome, another immediately pops it's head up. There is no down time for these characters.

Speaking of the characters, everyone is back, and in fine form. Characters are honest to themselves, although I can't say there's much evolution in any of them. More of the same old behavior from each, however, that's fine by me as I like all of the characters. The only slight difficulty I had, was concerning the perspective each section is written from. Ms. Buroker seems to switch seamlessly between characters while narrating the story, so it can be difficult to tell, at times, who's side of the story is being told. Within a span of a few pages, the story can be told from Ahn's, then Tolemek's then Sardelle's perspective, all without a formal transition. This largely works, but it can lead to some head scratching moments till you pinpoint who's speaking.

Finally, the conclusion/epilogue of the book form a satisfactory, if not truly satisfying ending. What they do serve to do, is like every other page in her books, to make you think, "Great, what's next?!"
I can’t believe that I didn’t review this the first time I read it … or I can’t remember doing it anyway. This, like the majority of Buroker’s books, was freaking fantastic to read. I love the imagination that she has when it comes to coming up with stuff, it always lends to a great read.

There is the way cool pilot stuff, secret military lab, booby traps, and fatalish dangers possible, and all woven in are characteresque things where you get more shading and details on and about the couples and the ways that each character thinks about the same situation.
I just fail at explaining why I love this series so much … sorry! You should really read it for yourself. It has action, adventure, just the right touch of romance to keep things interesting, and just is riveting all around to read.
I had not read any books by Lindsay Buroker until just a few days ago, when I bought and read the first three books in this series. I loved them and immediately bought this one, which I also loved.

This book was very well written. It had a larger ratio of fantasy to romance than the first books, but the love relationships between each couple were evolving and growing stronger. There was some minor sexual bantering but no graphic sex. This was not a 'hot' romance, but had a very satisfying depiction of new loving and caring relationships that were strengthening.

I got the feeling that this book was a stepping stone to the further development of the series. I definitely do not mean that in a pejorative way; this was still a strong entry in the series. No new characters were added and the kidnapped sister and dragon still played minor roles, although the scene was set for them to play a greater role. In some paranormal romance series that I like, new protagonists are central in each book, with previous protagonists having supporting roles. Maybe because this is a fantasy romance, Ms. Buroker has chosen to focus on her core characters from the first two books in the third and fourth ones. This approach works with the series, as it deepens the characterization of the heros, heroines and supporting characters.

The pacing was good. There was a fair bit of travelling and several action scenes in this book, where the elements of action, plot, setting, characterization and dialogue combined perfectly to engage the reader and create a strong story. I especially loved the bits of witty repartee and sarcasm. Ms. Buroker can definitely write great dialogue.

This book could be read as a stand alone book but the reader would miss too much. It is better read in order, after the previous books. There was no cliffhanger, but the scene was set for the next adventure, for those who want to continue with the series. That leads to my one complaint. This book appears to have been published in December of 2014, and this is only February of 2015, which means there are no new volumes for me to read. I am having withdrawal symptoms and I want to read more books set in the world created by Ms. Buroker.

I highly recommend this series and this book. I think they have broad appeal to various age groups, from teens to seniors who like fantasy combined with romance. I am in my 60s, but I think my daughter and granddaughter would certainly enjoy them.
